Discovering Global Connections at YMCA Camp West Mar
At YMCA Camp West Mar, we are thrilled to introduce our amazing international camp staff from Camp America. These dedicated individuals bring a world of experience, diverse cultural backgrounds, and unique talents to our camp, creating an enriching environment for everyone. Let’s meet Jeb Brabiner, Izzy Kent, Jas Whitfield, and Rhodri Davies, and learn about their lives back home and their excitement for the summer ahead.
Jeb Brabiner
Jeb is a 19-year-old student from Derbyshire, UK, currently pursuing a degree in Aviation Management at Sheffield Hallam University. Motivated by a passion for the outdoors and a desire to develop leadership skills, he saw the opportunity to work at a summer camp as both a valuable personal experience and a chance to explore the United States for the first time. He is particularly looking forward to contributing to the camp community this summer. With a genuine interest in working with young people, he is committed to fostering a positive, engaging, and supportive environment. He is enthusiastic about meeting new people, embracing new challenges, and creating memorable experiences for both himself and others.
As an energetic and active individual, he has a strong passion for sports—both as a participant and a spectator. He values the sense of teamwork, discipline, and camaraderie that sports encourage, and is excited to bring this enthusiasm to camp activities. Beyond sports, he has a keen interest in travel and cultural exploration. He enjoys discovering new places and engaging in new experiences, which aligns well with the diverse and dynamic environment of summer camp. This opportunity represents a perfect blend of his interests in leadership, adventure, and personal growth.
Izzy Kent
Isabelle, a 20-year-old from Liverpool, UK, leads a busy life filled with forensic science studies, traveling, and caring for her numerous pets—including a turtle and a gecko. She is currently a student at the University of Liverpool and is excited to be spending her second summer at Camp West Mar. Isabelle loves playing sports, particularly archery, soccer, gaga ball, and handball, and she fully immerses herself in camp life. She has a strong desire to help others and is passionate about teaching and connecting with campers. Isabelle is also looking forward to deepening her understanding of American culture and believes this experience will be incredibly valuable. She can’t wait to arrive and meet everyone!
Jas Whitfield
Jas is a 19-year-old business student from the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare in the UK. Alongside her studies, she works part-time as a tourist information guide. An outdoor enthusiast, Jas has always loved staying active and is thrilled to be spending the summer at camp. Sports have played a major role in her life—especially soccer—and she also enjoys running and keeping fit. Jas was drawn to working at a camp in the USA because she loves meeting new people, trying new things, and being part of a fun, energetic environment. She’s excited to help campers have the best summer ever, create amazing memories, and share her passion for sports and teamwork.
Rhodri Davies
Rhodri is from Wales, a small country in the UK, and is bilingual in both Welsh and English. After finishing school, he jumped at the opportunity to join Camp America—something he had wanted to do for a long time. This will be his first time experiencing camp life, and he’s excited for the adventure, the chance to meet new people, and the opportunity to fully immerse himself in the experience. At home, Rhodri works as a duty manager at a tearoom, a role that requires significant responsibility—something he handles with dedication and a strong work ethic. He is also considering an apprenticeship in catering, reflecting his commitment to personal and professional growth.
Outside of work, Rhodri enjoys kickboxing, a sport that combines elements of boxing and martial arts. He is currently working toward earning his purple belt, just two levels away from black. Another passion of his is psychology; he’s currently reading a non-fiction book about mental health, which he finds both insightful and inspiring. Rhodri is enthusiastic about assisting with activities at camp and is looking forward to having fun, building connections, and helping campers make unforgettable memories this summer.
