School Age Child Care FAQ’S

We surveyed 1200+ families regarding their needs for child care once the hybrid model began. We have opened schools for before and aftercare based on those survey results. We only had 6 locations with projected participation of over 10 children in care. We have opened 10 locations immediately and we hope to add more schools in the future as the need presents itself.

Those parents that expressed a need – we compiled the information and found that at this time due to projected enrollment we are only able to provide 4 sites with a before care option. Again, we will continue to revisit this as a need presents itself.

Since all cohorts were not yet released at the time enrollment began, we did not want to delay our enrollment process into the few days before the hybrid program started. Instead, we ask that parents try to coordinate the cohort they need based on the YMCA aftercare program with their school principal. Principals have very little wiggle room so they are doing their best to accommodate all the varying needs in the community.

Yes! If you prefer to stay in 5 days or 3 days Virtual, you have that option at 3 sites-Staley, Y Arts Center, and Green Valley ELC.

There could be some mixing between programs since we do not have 10 full day sites to coordinate with the 10 hybrid sites. However, we will do our best to group kids with minimal impact on cross-contamination. Children are already socially distanced, they wear masks and frequently wash their hands.

Since we are only able to offer the cohorts published at this time, we recommend you enroll in the Y program and reach out to the FCPS principal at your child’s school and ask for the cohort that coordinates with your schedule for child care reasons.

We are not able to keep every child with the same teacher they have had during virtual learning. However, we will do our best to minimize any transitions.

Since FPCS is moving into the hybrid model with alternating cohorts, this schedule would be impossible for us to accommodate at this time. Projected enrollment is at such a small number of participants, that if we offered both cohorts, we would likely see 2-4 children a day – something that is not sustainable.

We do not have a 1 day only program, however, if you are in need of care on Wednesdays, you would enroll at one of our full-day sites with either the 3-day or 5-day option.

FCPS is unable to provide additional transportation to or from sites to accommodate child care. The YMCA is also unable to provide transportation. We recommend that you ask the school principal to make a cohort change instead.
