Sigrid Gray, BASE Site Director/Summer Camp Coordinator, was recognized for her heroic actions by Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue. Earlier this summer, on June 22, 2024, Sigrid played a key role in saving a child’s life at the Edward P. Thomas Memorial Pool.
That day, Pat Tennant, a parent, noticed a child in distress floating in the pool. Without hesitation, Pat pulled the child from the water and handed them to the lifeguards. Along with bystanders Sara Rose and Sigrid Gray, the team immediately began life-saving CPR. After several tense minutes, the child regained consciousness and started breathing on their own.
It still feels very unreal. I can’t believe I actually made a difference in so many people’s lives by just being a bystander. I did what I was supposed to do that day.
For her quick thinking and decisive response, Sigrid was honored with an award for her outstanding efforts in saving a life. Thanks to the swift actions of everyone involved, including the lifeguards, bystanders, and emergency responders, the child made a full recovery.
We are incredibly proud of Sigrid and all the everyday heroes in our community who step up in times of need!
