New Indoor Pickleball Courts to Open at Y Sports Warehouse
The YMCA of Frederick County has been operating youth sports programs out of the 18,000 sq. ft. warehouse on 9th Street since 2015. Previously used for gymnastics and martial arts, the Y Sports Warehouse is being renovated into an indoor sports facility featuring four (4) indoor pickleball courts, one (1) multipurpose court to be used for volleyball and futsal (indoor soccer), and a Martial Arts space.
One of the fastest-growing sports in the country, Pickleball is fun no matter your age but requires skill, speed, and agility. With terms like dillball, kitchen and dink, Pickler-newbies will have fun learning this sport with friends or even strangers.
“We see pickleball as an incredible medium that brings people together, connects communities, and promotes a healthy and active lifestyle,” says former NFL quarterback Drew Brees.
The YMCA of Frederick County will have pickleball lessons, drop-in play and leagues for YMCA members and nonmembers. There will also be pickleball court reservations for YMCA members only.
Beginner tumbling gymnastics classes will continue to be held at the Downtown Y and Natelli Family Y branches.
Please visit the YMCA of Frederick County website for the current schedule, program offerings, and to register for pickleball lessons/programs.
The Y Sports Warehouse will open to the Frederick County community with a “soft opening” the week of Feb. 20th. Pickleball enthusiasts are encouraged to join the YMCA for an Opening Celebration on Thursday, February 23 from 4-7 pm at the Y Sports Warehouse located at 26 E 9th Street, Frederick, Maryland. There is limited parking at the Warehouse. Attendees are encouraged to park behind the Downtown Y and walk across the street to the Y Sports Warehouse.
