We are thrilled to announce that Jill Slaughter has been named the new Director of Arts and Humanities at the Y, bringing with her nearly two decades of experience, artistic vision, and a profound commitment to community engagement. Jill is no stranger to the Y—she’s been a beloved and dedicated member of our family for over 17 years.

Jill holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Shepherd College and a graduate degree from the Art Institute of Washington, credentials that have not only shaped her career but also earned a proud nod from her father, who’s delighted that her degrees are now being put to “official” use. Her educational background, combined with her natural creativity and passion for people, make her uniquely equipped to guide the Y’s arts and humanities programming into an exciting new chapter.

A passionate advocate for the power of the arts to build community, Jill has deep roots in Frederick and a genuine love for its vibrant cultural scene. Jill brings vision, compassion, and a touch of whimsy to everything she does. She believes strongly that the arts should be accessible, inclusive, and woven into the fabric of everyday life.

As she steps into this new leadership role, Jill is excited to continue shaping a space where creativity and connection thrive. Her approach is grounded in collaboration and fueled by a deep belief in the transformative power of the arts.
