Join the Y in the Fight Against Hunger this September

Hunger Action MOnth

September is Hunger Action Month. In Frederick County, nearly 9% (more than 22,000 people) of our community members are facing food insecurity.* When children are hungry, they can’t focus on their schoolwork and even show increased hyperactivity and aggression.

That’s why the YMCA of Frederick County is working to ensure our children have access to healthy meals and snacks through our Head Start program. In the 2022-23 school year, the Y has provided nearly 24,000 healthy meals and snacks to kids in our community.

Additionally, the YMCA Community Produce Market ensures the availability of fresh produce at little to no cost. With a goal of minimizing food waste and getting food into the hands of those who need it the most, those with a SNAP card receive up to $10 of free food (cost underwritten by the YMCA of Frederick County) each week. Those who don’t have a SNAP card but are struggling with food expenses can purchase items for $1 or $2 each, priced well below market value.

We cannot continue this work without your help! Donations to the Community Produce Market ensure those in need in our community continue to have access to fresh produce.
