Free & Free Falling: a year of haiku and images 2023

Welcome new artist in residence, Adrien P. Gehring, and experience her second handmade book of haiku and art.  She will share her writing and drawing process to create this work of art.  Books will be for sale at event.

From the book introduction:

In January 2023, I taped a word for the year to my refrigerator door: HOME

I spent the year searching for home:  a place to belong, a purpose for my life, continuity of my story, a community of faith practice.  Each week, I wrote a haiku to capture an aspect of my experience.  This is my second year of haiku practice, and once again, the poems and images are like seeds growing a story.  This book invites you to walk with me on my journey home.

Details about the book construction

Free and Free Falling was funded by an individual artist grant from the Frederick Arts Council. Text and images were laser printed at Minuteman Press in Frederick, Maryland. Book covers were printed on the letterpress at the Frederick Book Arts Center.  50 copies were hand-bound in a two signature butterfly stitch by the author in August of 2024.
