The YMCA of Frederick County offers certifications and training programs that build confidence, responsibility, and job-ready skills. Whether you are preparing for employment, renewing credentials, or learning essential life-saving techniques, our courses provide hands-on instruction led by experienced trainers.



Certification Programs
CPR & First Aid
Valid for two years after completion date, this is a blended learning training. Participants are required to complete an online learning module prior to attending the in-person portion of the class. A link to the online learning module will be emailed to you upon registration for the class.
Pool Operator Training
Age 16 and older. Pool Operator certification at the YMCA meets Maryland State requirements to become a Frederick County Pool Operator. Certification can be transferred to other counties, check the guidelines for your county as needed.
Students will learn about Maryland State laws regarding pool operation, as well as pool maintenance skills including safe chemical handling and adjustment, and basic pump mechanics and operation.
Lifeguard Certification
Ages 15 and older. In this course, students learn about the duties and responsibilities of being a lifeguard. Students also learn how to use rescue equipment, rescue a distressed swimmer, rescue an active drowning victim, rescue a passive drowning victim, and manage a suspected head injury victim. This course requires strenuous activity. People with a medical condition or disability should discuss it with staff at their local American Red Cross Chapter or at the YMCA before beginning this course.
