The mission of the YMCA of Frederick County is to meet the needs of everyone in Frederick County. Toward that end, the South County Family YMCA will serve youth, families, and seniors in the fastest growing part of our service area.
The new Y’s Aquatic Center will greatly alleviate the pressure to serve 10 county swim teams in three aging school facilities.
In addition, the Y’s extensive market research has clearly shown that the South County Family YMCA will be a big success. The Y plans to use the surplus revenue generated by this branch of the Y to underwrite critical youth and family programs in under-served, low income parts of the county.
Local community needs studies have revealed a continuing need for expanded programs and services for Frederick County’s exploding senior population. The results have also demonstrated the need for increased attention to the teens in our area who are subjected daily to the pressures and temptations of our modern culture.
We have begun a $22 million capital campaign to build the South County Family YMCA that will feature an atrium-style grand lobby; wellness center; aquatic center with a competitive lap pool, recreational pool, and family fun pool; group exercise studios; multi-purpose room; locker rooms; athletic fields.
