Small Group Training at the YMCA of Frederick County combines the energy of a group workout with the guidance of a certified trainer. These sessions are designed to deliver focused instruction, accountability, and encouragement—helping participants stay motivated while working toward shared fitness goals.
With a limited number of participants per class, small group training offers a supportive environment where individuals can challenge themselves, build confidence, and progress together.



Classes Offered
Ultimate Conditioning
Led by our best Personal Trainers, this is a group training program that takes you to the next level of strength and intense conditioning. Kettlebells, Medicine balls, ropes and much more are used at each class. Class: 60 minutes (includes warm up and stretch/cool down). Only at Downtown Y.
TRX +
Go Strong GET Sweaty! This is for everyone!! TRX suspension Training delivers a fast, eective total-body workout, helps build a rock-solid core, increases muscular endurance and benefits people of all fitness levels (pro athletes to seniors). It leverages gravity and the user’s body weight to complete 100’s of exercises. Add in some slam balls or ropes and you have a total body workout. You’re in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise – because you can simply adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance. Class: 60 minutes (includes warm up and stretch/cool down). Only at Downtown Y.
KB+
KB+ is led by Personal Trainers for the ultimate small group training experience using Kettlebells and TRX Suspension straps. During this 45 minute class, you will get both cardio and strength training in a small group with the added benefit of individualized touches from your coach to scale the movements based on your personal needs in addition to getting those personal challenges when needed. This class is the missing link between group exercise and one-on-one personal training. Only at Downtown Y.
Strength Conditioning
A sequence of 45-60 minute classes over the course of 12 weeks. Classes are progressive and focus on building strength and moving slowly. During class, participants will use not only their own bodyweight but also plates and barbells and when available kettlebells and dumbbells. Only at Downtown Y.
Mobile Strength
This class is for the beginner who has little to no experience with resistance training (or who hasn’t trained consistently for a few years), all the way up to advanced lifters looking to improve their mobility and skill. You can expect to build strength through a full range of motion, strengthen your joints, and build a strong body resilient to injury. Only at Downtown Y.
Kettlebell Basics
This class is free to members and focuses on the fundamental movements performed with kettlebells. In order to gain confidence and a strong foundation of kettlebell movements, the same workout will be delivered over a set period of time. Setting this strong foundation will lead to the next level of training in our KB+ Small Group Training program that will include more advanced kettlebell movements. Only at Downtown Y.
Peak Youth Performance
Designed specifically for young teens, this high-energy class focuses on developing the foundational skills every athlete needs. Through fun, dynamic training sessions, participants will improve strength, increase explosive power, enhance agility, and develop better balance and coordination. Whether your teen is looking to improve in sports or just build overall physical confidence, this class oers a positive and motivating environment that meets them where they are — and challenges them to grow.
