FIRST AID FOR CHEMICAL EXPOSURES
For chemical eye contact:

- Do not put anything else into the eye except water unless instructed to do so by an emergency

Proceed with the necessary spill containment and clean-up procedures after rendering first aid.
GAS LEAK
Designated Emergency Response number is 911.
- If you smell gas and suspect a gas leak, cease all
- DO NOT SWITCH ON LIGHTS OR ANY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT, including radios and walkie-talkies.

REPORTING CHILD ABUSE
- Maryland law mandates that any person who knows, or has reasonable cause to suspect, that a child is abused, neglected or abandoned by a parent, legal custodian, caregiver, or other person responsible for the child’s welfare shall immediately report such knowledge or suspicion to the Maryland Child Protective Services (Frederick County, 301-600-4555)
- A professionally mandatory reporter of child abuse/neglect is required by Maryland law to provide his or her name to the Abuse Hotline Counselor when Examples of a “professionally mandated reporter” would include school teacher, school official, school professional staff, day care center worker or adult day care center staff.

REPORTING RED FLAG BEHAVIOR
Please notify your supervisor immediately of any “Red Flag” behavior you see regarding other staff or program participants. If you find that you are in violation of committing a “Red Flag” behavior you should self-report to your supervisor. Your supervisor will then contact the VP of Youth Development. “Red Flag” behaviors would include but are not limited to the following:
- Staff allowing children to sit on his/her lap
- Staff tickling children
- Staff giving participants gifts
- Staff who are in a one-to-one ratio with a child
- Staff who neglect or leave children unsupervised
- Staff who physically, verbally, sexually, or mentally abuse children
- Staff who touch participants in their bathing suit area
- Staff who contact participants using personal social media, such as Facebook, Twitter or texting
- Staff who use computers to access pornographic sites
- Staff who take pictures of campers on his/her personal devices
- Staff who meet program participants outside YMCA activities
SUSPICIOUS/UNAUTHORIZED PERSON
- Assess the situation for the intent of the suspicious/unauthorized person
- Approach only if the situation appears to be safe
- Be polite but

ARMED INTRUDER LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE
- If you are aware of incident/intruder, are not directly involved and can safely leave the building without being observed, do so and raise the Call 911. Do not confront the intruders.
- If you are aware of an intruder and cannot safely leave

HOW TO RESPOND WHEN AN ACTIVE SHOOTER IS IN YOUR VICINITY
Quickly determine the most reasonable way to protect your own life. Customers and clients are likely to follow the lead of employees and managers during an active shooter situation.

HOW TO RESPOND WHEN LAW ENFORCEMENT ARRIVES ON THE SCENE:
- Remain calm, and follow officers’ instructions
- Immediately raise hands and spread fingers
- Keep hands visible at all times
- Avoid making quick movements toward officers such as attempting to hold on to them for safety
- Avoid pointing, screaming and/or yelling
- Do not stop to ask officers for help or direction when evacuating; just proceed in the direction from which officers are entering the
INFORMATION YOU SHOULD PROVIDE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OR 911 OPERATOR:
- Location of the active shooter
- Number of shooters if more than one
- Physical description of shooter(s)
- Number and type of weapons held by the shooter(s)
- Number of potential victims at the location
RECOGNIZING SIGNS OF POTENTIAL WORKPLACE VIOLENCE
An active shooter may be a current or former employee. Alert your Human Resources department if you believe an employee exhibits potentially violent behavior. Indicators of potentially violent behavior may include one or more of the following:
- Increased use of alcohol and/or illegal drugs
- Unexplained increase in absenteeism and/or vague physical complaints
- Depression/Withdrawal
- Increased severe mood swings and noticeably unstable or emotional responses
- Increase in talks of problems at home
- Increase in unsolicited comments about violence, firearms and other dangerous weapons and violent crimes
COMMUNICATION PROCEDURES
- In case of an emergency, respond to the Call 911 and/or appropriate emergency staff immediately.
