Supporting Teen Growth
Teens are navigating a time of discovery, confidence-building, and growing independence. The YMCA of Frederick County provides safe, welcoming spaces where young people connect with peers, build skills, and feel supported by caring adult mentors. From leadership programs and recreation to arts, wellness, and community involvement, we help teens explore who they are and who they want to become. Every opportunity is designed to promote belonging, responsibility, and personal growth.

Opportunities That Inspire
Teens at the Y gain access to meaningful experiences that strengthen their spirit, mind, and body. Our programs give young people the freedom to try new things, practice healthy habits, and build the confidence they need to thrive. Supportive staff and a community-focused environment ensure every teen feels welcome.
Leadership and Community Engagement

Programs encourage teens to step into leadership roles, learn responsibility, and contribute to their community. Through volunteer opportunities, mentorship experiences, and team activities, youth gain valuable life skills. These programs help teens understand their strengths while developing empathy and respect for others.
Youth & Government

Maryland Y Youth & Government is a special program specifically designed to give high school students a hands-on lesson in how government works. Teens will learn how to elect their own leaders, debate, legislate bills, and lobby for their vision of a better future!
The program is open to all high school students in the state of Maryland regardless of how much or how little you may know about government and the legislative process. We’ll teach you everything you need to know as all of your efforts culminate into a 3-day mock legislative assembly at the Maryland State House in Annapolis!
Y Youth & Government is a nationwide program, active in nearly 40 states. Across the country, almost 25,000 students attend state Youth & Government conferences each year with 3,300 adult volunteers and Y associates serving as advisors.
The Maryland Youth & Government program involves 250 high school students each year. Since 1945, our program has focused on training great servant leaders and providing an opportunity for young adults to make their voices heard.
Frederick Y Youth & Government runs from September-April.
The Frederick Y Delegation meets bi-weekly from September-December, and weekly from January-April, offering 2 meeting locations. This program is student-led with elected leaders under the guidance of an adult advisor. Students must be active participants in a delegation to join & participate in Y&G.
