“It’s not about the new building. It’s not even about the YMCA. It’s about the positive, permanent behavioral changes that happen inside the building. And it’s about the future of Frederick County. The new South County Family YMCA is a symbol of our commitment to this county. It is also a symbol of the principles that guide everything we do for children and families in this remarkable community.”

– Chris Colville, Frederick County YMCA CEO

The YMCA of Frederick County currently serves more than 30,000 participants annually and nearly one-third of them are under the age of 18. The mission of the YMCA of Frederick County is to meet the needs of EVERYONE in Frederick County and in 2020 the Y plans to provide more than $500,000 in free and subsidized programs to youth, families, and seniors seeking health and community! Toward that end, the South County Family YMCA will serve youth, families, and seniors in the fastest-growing part of our service area.

The new South County Family YMCA will be located on a beautiful 22-acre parcel of land on Urbana Pike between Urbana High School and Urbana Middle School. This land was generously donated by Natelli Communities.

The South County YMCA will be a modern, vibrant, gathering hub for southern Frederick County and surrounding communities. Organized around an open central core, the venues will weave elegantly into the existing space; providing the modern conveniences of a world-class community center.

Just Keep Swimming

When the two pools in our new South County Family YMCA are packed with children and teens taking swim lessons and participating on the many swim teams that will have access to the pool; when adults and seniors are exercising in our water aerobics classes; when those who are injured are rehabilitating in our warm water therapy pool….we will indeed be DIVING IN…to help our community. The new Y’s Aquatic Center will greatly alleviate the pressure to serve 10 county swim teams in three aging school facilities.

Local community needs studies have revealed a continuing need for expanded programs and services for Frederick County’s exploding senior population along with increased attention to the teens in our area who are subjected daily to the pressures and temptations of our modern culture.

Amenities will include:

  • Aquatics Center
  • Wellness Center
  • Group Exercise Studios
  • Adult Locker Rooms
  • Family / Special Needs Locker Room
  • Visitor Locker Rooms
  • Inter-Generational Center
  • Kids’ Adventure Center / Child Watch
