At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is an important life skill for everyone! Swimming develops the whole person: spirit, mind, and body. In swim lessons, we use a combination of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meet swimmers at their own level and celebrate all successes. Trained instructors emphasize personal safety, swimming skills, endurance, and social skills, while guiding students with praise and encouragement.
All Pre-school and Youth swimmers who are new to taking lessons at the YMCA of Frederick County (or those who have taken a break from lessons for more than 6 months) must be evaluated before enrolling in group lessons.
Exception: Children who will register for Pike 1 or Polliwog do not need to be evaluated.
To schedule an evaluation, please contact Aquatics Director Samm Meddaugh or stop by the front desk to fill out an evaluation request form.
