The YMCA Dance Program sent 12 student dancers and 2 teachers to the East Coast Committee of the Cecchetti Council of America (ECC/CCA) conference on October 7 and 8. Cecchetti is a rigorous method of ballet training based on the famous dancer and teacher Enrico Cecchetti (1850-1928.) It develops all of the qualities essential to the dancer: balance, poise, strength, elevation, elasticity, “ballon”, etc. The conference provided our students exposure to various teaching styles, a professional ballet faculty, and to other forms and fields or dance. For our teachers, the conference gave them a broader knowledge of dance, thereby raising the quality of the teaching of ballet here at the Y.
On October 15, three of our dancers attended the Maryland Council for Dance at Chesapeake College, where they took master classes in Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip Hop dance. These classes were taught by professionals in the field of dance – choreographers, performers, studio owners, and faculty.
