New Year, New Volunteer Leadership

YMCA CDO

The YMCA of Frederick County has served Frederick the last for 160 years.  We are one of the oldest YMCAs in America and are committed to serving the Frederick Community for the next 160+ years. Having a robust Endowment is important to nonprofits like the Y being able to serve their communities for the long term.  A strong Endowment provides a safety net to weather unexpected events, like the recent floods we experienced.  The Endowment also provides a stream of revenue that can help offset the $550k+ in scholarships that we give out on an annual basis.

Almost 7 years ago, Chris Colville became the President/CEO and one of her first assignments was to re-engage an Endowment Committee. Chris asked Kim Chaney, a local CPA and business owner, and Richard Foot, a retired Y CEO from New England who relocated to Frederick, to chair the new committee.  Kim and Richard along with many long time Y volunteers spent the last 6 years building a solid committee and growing the Y Endowment fund in size. The Y is truly fortunate to have two servant leaders, Kim and Richard, put so much time and effort into this project.  We thank them for their service and are fortunate that Kim and Richard are staying on the Endowment Committee for the foreseeable future.

We would now like to introduce you to Tom Trott Jr. as our newest Endowment Chair.  Tom is a native of Frederick and is the Frederick Branch Manager and Team Leader of Embrace Home Loans.  Tom has a long association with the Frederick YMCA. His Boy Scout Troop was sponsored by the Frederick YMCA and he served as a Youth Member of the YMCA Board of Directors in the early 1980s.  As a current member of the Y Board of Directors, Tom has an extensive knowledge of how important the Y is to Frederick.  When asked about his upcoming role Tom said he wanted “to increase participation in the Heritage and Legacy societies”. He went on to say this was important because “the one thing that impresses me most about the YMCA is that it brings together all people and specifically kids in an environment where everyone is equal”.

We are grateful that the YMCA Endowment committee is in such great hands as we move into a new year.
