Congrats School of Dance Graduating Seniors!

The YMCA School of Dance completed their 34th annual dance recital, Dancing Through Time.  We had 166 dancers perform ballet, tap, jazz, modern, and Hip Hop dances.  We had 31 dancers perform multiple dances in the show, some up to nine dances!

The dance department is saying a bittersweet farewell to the following graduating seniors.

Abby Crosby has been dancing at the YMCA School of Dance for 15 years. Throughout her time here she has been a Company member, Company liaison, a teacher, and has passed her student Cecchetti Grade I-V exams as well as her teacher Grade I exam this past April. Abby is graduating from Urbana High School and the International Baccalaureate Program and will be attending Bard College in the fall where she hopes to study Global and International Studies, History, and Dance.

Rebecca Mwendwa has been dancing at the YMCA School of Dance for 13 years. She is a member of the YMCA Dance Company and is also a dance instructor at the Y. Rebecca is currently studying Cecchetti Grade 6, enjoys a variety of dance styles, and has found a passion for choreography.

She is graduating from Tuscarora High School where she participated in marching band, concert band and jazz band, and was recently selected as the first chair tenor sax in Frederick County’s All County Concert Band. Rebecca will be attending UMBC this fall, double majoring in pre-med and dance.

Holly Stefanick has been a dancer for the past 15 years, the last three at the YMCA School of Dance. During her time at the YMCA she was a member of the Junior Company and has passed her Cecchetti Ballet grades I-V exams.  Holly is graduating from Oakdale High School where she participated in the Leadership Academy and Pre Engineering Track. She will be attending The College of William and Mary in the fall to pursue a degree in Biological Mathematics with a minor in dance.

Winter has played softball for 9 years and is Captain of her Varsity Softball team. Winter is graduating from Governor Thomas Johnson High School and will be attending the University of Maryland, College Park. She was accepted directly into the School of Journalism and invited into the Scholars Program. Winter plans to major in Journalism and minor in Political Science.

Congratulations Abby, Becca, Holly, and Winter — it has been a pleasure watching you grow into beautiful dancers and successful young women.  You will be missed greatly!!
