Swim Lessons

We use a variety of fun methods to help swimmers overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime

At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is an important life skill for everyone! Swimming develops the whole person: spirit, mind, and body. In swim lessons, we use a combination of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meet swimmers at their own level and celebrate all successes. Trained instructors emphasize personal safety, swimming skills, endurance, and social skills, while guiding students with praise and encouragement.

All Pre-school, School Age, and Teen swimmers who are new to taking lessons at the YMCA of Frederick County (or those who have taken a break and do not have an approval for their new program stage) must be evaluated before enrolling in group lessons. Exception: Children who will register for Parent/Child, Water Acclimation, or Swim Basics classes do not need to be evaluated.
