School Age Swim Lessons

Our school age swimming lessons are pupil centered with a problem solving and guided discovery teaching approach. Each development level is divided into five components, which include personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, water sports and games, and rescue. In our school age swim lessons, the skills and activities promote health and fitness.

Water Acclimation

Ages 6-13 years, no evaluation required. Designed for children who are new to swim lessons, have little experience with swim lessons, or who may have minor discomfort with the water. Increases comfort with underwater exploration and introduces basic self-rescue skills performed with instructor assistance.

Water Movement

Ages 6-13 years, evaluation required prior to registration. Designed for children who have had some experience with swim lessons and are comfortable being in the water and wetting their face. Encourages forward and backward movement in water and basic self-rescue skills performed independently.

Water Stamina

Ages 6-13 years, evaluation required prior to registration. Designed for children who have had regular experience with swim lessons (formal or informal) and are comfortable and independent in the water. Develops forward and backward movement, and intermediate self-rescue skills performed at longer distances than in previous stages.

Stroke Introduction

Ages 6-13 years, evaluation required prior to registration. Designed for children who have had regular experience with swim lessons (formal or informal) and are fully comfortable and independent the water regardless of depth. Introduces basic stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and reinforces water safety through treading water and elementary backstroke.

Stroke Development

Ages 6-13 years, evaluation required prior to registration. Designed for children who have had regular experience with swim lessons (formal or informal), are fully comfortable and independent in the water regardless of depth, and have developed emerging technique and speed in freestyle and backstroke. Introduces breaststroke and butterfly and reinforces water safety through treading water and sidestroke.

Stroke Mechanics

Ages 6-13 years, evaluation required prior to registration. Designed for children who have had regular experience with formal swim lessons, are fully comfortable and independent in the water regardless of depth, and have developed consistent technique and speed in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Refines stroke technique on all major competitive strokes and encourages swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Swim Basics

Ages 6-13 years, no evaluation required. Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning breath control, forward and backward movement, water safety, and benchmark skills. Comprehensive of Water Acclimation, Water Movement, and Water Stamina stages.

Swim Strokes

Ages 6-13 years, evaluation required prior to registration. Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity. Comprehensive of Stroke Introduction, Stroke Development, and Stroke Mechanics stages.
