The YMCA of Frederick County believes all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. At the YMCA, kids have the opportunity to make friends, try new sports and build their skill sets all while encompassing the core values of the YMCA – caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. From fitness to sports to academic programs, YMCA classes are taught by talented and experience staff.
This summer, the YMCA of Frederick County will offer 40 camps including sports, art, humanities, outdoor adventure camps and more. Many camps will offer swimming, field trips, games, crafts, and character development activities.
At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is an important life skill for everyone! Swimming develops the whole person: spirit, mind, and body. In swim lessons, we use a combination of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime.
Competitive Swim Team
The Frederick County YMCA Tidal Force swim team participates in both a summer and a winter league. We compete as a team in scored, dual meets as well as optional invitational meets throughout both seasons.
When kids play Y Sports, they develop more than just skills – they develop character. We offer a variety of programs for youth, including team sports and clinics. Our sport leagues include basketball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, and golf.
The YMCA offers karate classes, from beginner to advanced level. Our classes are provided in a safe, ethical, and traditional environment that cater to all levels of experience. Y Karate classes focus on a variety of skills and areas of personal growth, such as self-defense, self-confidence, personal discipline, respect for others and physical conditioning.
Let the dancer in you shine! There is a home for everyone when you join our YMCA Dance Family. We have just the class for you whether you are a seeking professional development, dancing for fun or just getting started! Classes offered include Dance Basics, Ballroom, Dancer Conditioning, Tap, Hip Hop, Theater Dance, Acrobatics. The Y also offers a School of Dance and FCY Gymnastics Team which is available for dancers with experience.
YMCA gymnastics classes are designed to build confidence and skills in a safe environment. These classes will focus on general body awareness, skills, developing strength and endurance. We offer classes for beginners to more advanced gymnasts, including tumbling and boys gymnastics.
Reach & Rise Mentor Program
A Y program that gives young kids a mentor that can help improve their academic performance, self-esteem, decision making skills and relationships with peers and family. The mentor will spend about 2 hours with your child every week for 1 year. Activities in the community include: sports, arts, museums, help with homework and other enriching activities.
Before & After School
With Before & After Care the YMCA provides the largest amount of programs in Frederick County for school-aged children. This provides children with the solid foundation that they need to thrive through values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Our Head Start program provides comprehensive education, social, health, and nutrition services. Through this program, children are able to participate in educational experiences and receive helpful benefits.
Sea Scouts - Ship 59
Introducing Ship 59! Ship 59 is Chartered by the YMCA of Frederick County. The Ship is a growing part of the Boy Scouts of America’s Venturing and Sea Scouts program. Both of these programs are co-educations and have active youth members from ages 14-21. We have youth from all around Frederick County representing most of the county’s High Schools and are an extremely active group. We have an activity every month – including the winter!
