The YMCA offers many programs and services for teens to learn who they are and what they can achieve. Teens find the YMCA a place where they can have fun, spend time with friends and make new friends, learn new activities, and be themselves. We strive to make the YMCA a community that allows teens to feel safe and learn to make a difference in a positive environment.
Teen Leaders Club
The club’s purpose and goals are to enhance the lives of our teens through volunteer efforts, service projects, leadership training, and fun recreational activities.
Teens can experience camping through both overnight and day camp. Whether it’s singing or swimming, nature hikes or computer classes, counselors at YMCA camps lead teens in developing new skills and having fun.
Lifeguard Training & Certification
With our YMCA and American Red Cross lifeguard certification courses you can do just that. Participants will learn lifeguarding skills, how to perform CPR on an adult, child and infant, how to use an AED, and necessary first-aid skills.
The YMCA offers group and private swimming lessons for all teens interested. Trained instructors emphasize personal safety, swimming skills, endurance, and social skills, while guiding students with praise and encouragement.
Competitive Swim Team
The Frederick County YMCA Tidal Force swim team participates in both a summer and a winter league. We compete as a team in scored, dual meets as well as optional invitational meets throughout both seasons.
Reach & Rise Mentor Program
A Y program that gives young kids a mentor that can help improve their academic performance, self-esteem, decision making skills and relationships with peers and family. The mentor will spend about 2 hours with your child every week for 1 year. Activities in the community include: sports, arts, museums, help with homework and other enriching activities.
YMCA karate classes focus on a variety of skills and areas of personal growth, such as self-defense, self-confidence, personal discipline, respect for others and physical conditioning.
These classes are designed for students who have busy lives and a passion for dance. Take just one or take them all, students will continue to learn stylistic technique, build strength and increase flexibility. We offer teen/adult level classes in in ballet, modern, jazz and tap.
Our FCY gymnastics team program is for beginner to advanced level gymnasts who are interested in competing in the Mason Dixon Gymnastics league. We focus on the physical, psychological, and emotional well-being of each gymnast, while preparing them for excitement filled competition. This program consists of three pre-competitive levels and five competitive levels.
Health & Fitness
The YMCA of Frederick County offers many options for teens to be healthy and have fun doing so.
Fun Zone Teen Center
In the Fun Zone, children ages 3 months to 17 years old play under the supervision of caring, trained Y staff. The Fun Zone is divided into two main areas. The front room which includes the indoor play structure and infant/toddler area is primarily for younger children, while the back room is geared for kids ages 9 and up.
Earth Service Corps
This is an innovative youth-led program that empowers students to take a hands-on role in creating a healthier environment in their schools, communities and region while nurturing a respect for diversity within the natural world. YMCA Earth Service Corps works with students and teacher advisers to provide a unique opportunity for students to identify local environmental issues while working collaboratively to engage participants in community action.
