SUMMARY:Whale Wall: Immersive Dance Theatre Performance
DESCRIPTION:MAD Dance presents “Whale Wall\,” a New Immersive Dance Theatre Performance\, on November 19 in Frederick\n \nFrederick\, MD – MAD Dance presents “Whale Wall\,” an immersive dance theatre performance\, on November 19 at 7:00 pm at the Y Arts Center\, 115 East Church Street\, Frederick\, MD. Seating is limited\, and advance ticket purchase is highly recommended. Tickets are by sliding scale on the Eventbrite platform (https://MAD-Dance-Theatre.eventbrite.com. \nWhale Wall is classic MAD Dance. Equal parts quirky\, beautiful\, and complicated\, two entities adrift at sea ponder all matters of things as they find themselves beached on the shores of a circa 1920s oceanside resort. There they are equal parts mystified and delighted by the stimulating environment. This immersive dance theatre piece ponders how we respond in unfamiliar environments\, a meaningful exploration as we all find ourselves in ever-murkier waters in our actual state of current affairs. Defying genre\, “Whale Wall” incorporates storytelling\, video\, song\, and an original score to create a unique and one-of-a-kind experience. \n“Whale Wall” is created and performed by Kitty Clark and Ray C. Shaw (MAD Dance)\, with a sound score by composer Cam Millar and contributions from singer Laura First. \nThe development and performance of “Whale Wall” is supported in part by the Frederick Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nFor more information\, call 301-331-4398 or find MAD Dance on Facebook (www.facebook.com/MAD.Dance.Theatre). \nAbout MAD Dance \nMAD Dance is Kitty Clark and Ray C. Shaw\, longtime colleagues who make contemporary work in the modern dance tradition. Drawing on improvisational and somatic practices\, the duo manifests deeply intimate work and offers numerous ways for people to understand and experience artistic dance. MAD Dance creates and performs works that are outside the mainstream\, sometimes raw\, often beautiful\, and always authentic. MAD Dance has been honored with an Independent Artist Award and two Creativity Grants from the Maryland State Arts Council and most recently a grant from the Frederick Arts Council. Ray has an MFA from Arizona State University and is a practicing acupuncturist. Kitty has an MFA from Smith College and is a yoga instructor and arts administrator. They share a background in somatic-based dance training. \n# # #
