About the YMCA

The YMCA of Frederick County is a nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1858. It’s an association of persons of all ages, ethnic groups, and religious affiliations united in a common effort to put Judeo-Christian principles into practice.

Every year, we serve over 10,000 members, 25,000 program participants, and a number of community agencies.

We Build Strong Kids

Through youth development, quality child care, wellness, sports, and recreational programs, we help children to grow up healthy. We:

  • Promote character development, emphasizing the qualities of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
  • Provide a safe place for kids, where conflict resolution and good social skills are taught and practiced.
  • Help children acquire confidence and decision-making skills.
  • Employ an innovative curriculum and qualified staff to prepare children for academic success.
We Build Strong Families

We offer programs that bring parents and children together, giving families a chance to strengthen their relationships in a safe, caring, and welcoming environment. We:

  • Help meet the needs of working parents by offering affordable child care, before and after-school care, and a wide variety of summer camps.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and self-esteem through fitness and wellness activities.
We Build Strong Communities

We celebrate diversity, and design our programs to meet the needs of the community as a whole. We:

  • Promote the well-being of all people, regardless of race, creed, national origin, gender or religion.
  • Respect the right of each person to enjoy a safe, secure and fulfilling experience, free of physical, psychological and emotional harm or danger.
  • Serve all ages, all abilities, and all incomes.
